The Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) is a global coalition of financial institutions dedicated to promoting the transition to a net-zero economy in line with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C goal. Established in April 2021 and launched at COP26 in Glasgow, GFANZ is led by co-chairs Michael Bloomberg and Mark Carney, with Mary Schapiro serving as Vice Chair. The alliance includes over 450 financial institutions, representing more than $130 trillion in assets. GFANZ provides guidelines and tools for setting science-based net-zero targets, facilitates collaboration across sectors to overcome financing barriers, and aggregates member disclosures to track progress. It also advocates for policies that align financial regulations with net-zero objectives. The alliance offers resources such as templates for net-zero transition plans and publishes research and technical guidance on climate risk management and green investment. GFANZ is open to any financial institution committed to mobilizing capital for decarbonization.
